This painting was inspired by a day on the water with family, exploring the Ningaloo Reef. Zac was standing at the front of the boat fishing for bluebone, while I was in the water nearby admiring a leopard shark we had just spotted. Kels was snorkelling on the other side of the boat, searching the reef below. Then, without warning, a hammerhead shark emerged from beneath the boat and glided between us.
For a few brief moments, we were all sharing the same space with this incredible animal. Calm, effortless and completely at home in the ocean, the hammerhead swam past before disappearing back into the blue. It wasn’t a dramatic encounter—just one of those rare, magical moments that reminds you how special it is to be out there.
Painted from an aerial perspective, this artwork captures the feeling of looking down into crystal-clear water and witnessing something unforgettable unfold beneath the surface. The ripples, light and movement are all part of the memory.
